It's one thing to say "I know who I am", but a different ball game when you're asked "who are you?"
Entry 31.01.24
Early this year, I was at the mall one day, trying to do a survey on a product I needed to procure. I stopped at an aisle scanning the shelf for what I needed, when an elderly man approached me with a tract in his hands. He said: "Jesus loves you," while attempting to hand the tract to me. I immediately responded: "Oh, no thank you, I'm already born again", initially declining his offer of the tract...almost dismissive and trying to continue my scanning.
Then, he asked me a very striking question that I wouldn't forget in a hurry: "So, where is your place in the Kingdom? What is your position in the Kingdom?" He struck a chord that sent a piercing through me with that question and got my full attention. For the first time, I observed the smile and undeniable glow on his face that I can only describe as heavenly. He was firm, resolute, warm yet unwavering in the questioning; it almost felt like an angel stood before me...and that made me shudder a little.
"I'm a Priest", I responded, almost without thinking..." a Priest of the Almighty", I added -that, I knew for sure, as I have been operating in that realm. He seemed unshaken at my response and questioned yet further again: "What is your office in the five-fold ministry of the Kingdom?" Now, that threw me off balance a bit; I didn't see that coming. I knew I walked in the prophetic, but that wasn't the first thing that came to mind at the moment. "Err, that's an interesting question", I said, scanning my head for the appropriate office to respond with. It was rather an office that I possessed but seldomly harnessed that popped up: "Teaching, I guess" responding with a bit of uncertainty. "You're a teacher of the word?", he asked; "y...eah" I responded, almost hesitantly. "Okay, that's nice", he said approvingly. He went ahead to ask me a few more questions, as though he was searching for an unwavering stand from me through my responses, before getting on his way.
By the time we were done, I knew I had to do something about his initial offer. "I'll pass this down", I said, taking the tract off his hand and turning round to head out. I didn't have enough courage to look back as I didn't want to find out whether the man I just talked to was an angel...or not. (not sure I could handle whatever I found out 😐). On my way out, I passed down his track to the security with the same words: "Jesus loves you"...and of course with a smile, asking him to read and pass it down too. Check...I guess ✅😀.
I got home, and there the real internal anguish began. The man's image, demeanor, questions and searching smile haunted me and weighed heavily on my spirit. I can almost still picture his firm, glowing, searching face as I type this. The question, "Who are you?" rang loudly in my head. I was conflicted, not because my responses at the mall weren't true, but because I responded with some sort of incertitude of my identity; and it didn't quite feel good to doubt who I really was. You know? It's one thing to say "I know who I am", but a different ball game when you're asked "Who are you?", especially when you've probably not given so much thought to it nor have a ready confident response to your identity. Now that was very disturbing for me...in that moment, I felt I let myself down, and realized preparation was key.
Towards the end of 2023, one of the themes for the new year that the Holy Spirit impressed in my heart was VISIBILITY. It was so strong in my spirit that He wanted it to be the central focus of the coming year (2024). He was basically saying 'it was time for your light to have a greater reach than just your circumference, so get it out there and shine it'...and meeting that strange man at the mall who was very searching with his questions added a more punching reinforcement to it.
That meeting helped me reevaluate and put things into a better perspective: I knew exactly who I was and my place in the Kingdom, but it was time to wear it on boldly as an identity for others to see and come to the brightness of its light...and be prepared to give answer to anyone who asked the reason of my hope ( 1 Peter 2:15). Jesus said to let your light shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven. (Matt 5:16)…which is exactly what I resolved to do more going forward.
